Festival opens with the Cannes Palme d’Or winner TITANE.
Night Visions International Film Festival returns to the screens of Helsinki with a bang on the first week of December 2021. Night Visions Maximum Comeback is just as massive a celebration of cinematic wonders as the title suggests, conquering the screens of Cinema Orion, Bio Rex Lasipalatsi and WHS Teatteri Union for five full days from December 1 to December 5, 2021.
The Official Selection of the festival consists of over 30 features and a handful of carefully hand picked shorts. All new titles in the festival lineup are Finnish theatrical premieres.
The festival opens with Julia Ducournau’s groundbreaking Cannes Palme d’Or winner TITANE (France 2021), one of this year’s most talked about feature films all over the world.
Another Cannes 2021 highlight in the Offical Selection of Night Visions Maximum Comback arrives to Helsinki from Norway. Having made a splash in the Un Certain Regard selection of Cannes this July, Eskil Vogt’s paranormal horror THE INNOCENTS (Norway/Sweden/Denmark/UK/France/Finland 2021) also has some significant connections to Finland. Misha Jaari and Mark Lwoff of the production company BUFO have acted as its co-producers, also having brought in composer Pessi Levanto, special makeup effects designer Salla Yli-Luopa (last seen at Night Visions with Lee Cronin’s A HOLE IN THE GROUND) and special makeup effects artist Saara Räisänen.
Even more substantial Finnish force is involved in Alex Noyer’s highly original chiller SOUND OF VIOLENCE (USA/Finland 2021). A story inspired by synesthesia, a rare neurological disorder that can make people see certain sounds as colours, SOUND OF VIOLENCE stars the amazing Jasmin Savoy Brown (also featured in next year’s Scream reboot) and James Jagger, the actor son of Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall. In addition to director-screenwriter Noyer, the Finnish creative talent involved in the production include producer/editor Hannu Aukia, editor Vertti Virkajärvi, costume designer Annette Aispuro, composer Jaakko Manninen and sound editor Jussi Tegelman.
Full programme of Night Visions Maximum Comeback will be announced on Monday, November 15. Tickets go on sale on Friday, November 19 at the festival’s online store.
