The spring 2018 edition of Night Visions International Film Festival wrapped up with a blast in Helsinki on Sunday, April 22nd. The biggest festival in Scandinavia focusing on (but not limited to) fantasy, horror, science fiction and action cinema conquered a total of five screens in the Finnish capital for five consecutive days. The audience was introduced to 31 feature films and a handful of shorts in a total of 64 screenings.
The biggest hits of the festival included Justin MacGregor’s Best F(r)iends (USA 2018), reuniting Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero on the big screen after 15 years, Jeremy Dyson’s and Andy Nyman’s London Film Festival hit Ghost Stories (UK 2017) and the festival’s opener You Were Never Really Here (UK / France / USA 2017) by Lynne Ramsay.
Out of the retro selection, the best performers were the scifi horrors Remote Control (1988) and Squirm (1976) by the director-screenwriter-producer Jeff Lieberman, who also presented all of his screenings in person to the Night Visions audience. Remote Control and Squirm were now also shown for the first time ever on the big screen in Finland.
In conjunction with the closing, Night Visions also announced the dates of its fall 2018 edition of the festival. The next edition of Scandinavia’s biggest genre bash will take place in Helsinki, Finland from November 21st to November 25th, 2018.
